In the late 1950’s, when I was in high school, Dwight David Eisenhower had my wholesome respect. I still remember the Republican National Convention of 1956. I was naively less cognizant of our country’s shortcomings then as I now am. However, by remembering the mood and self-image of our country at that time in history, I remain an admirer of “Ike” as one of our greatest Presidents.
“While complete success will always elude us, still it (our responsibility) is a quest which is vital to self-government and to our way of life as free men.”
